A Journey To You

April 10, 2020

Dear Love,

I was thinking of you today as I was talking to my eldest son on the phone while walking in the park. For a moment, I thought I saw you and wanted to get your attention, so I quickly made my way to your line of sight and started doing lunges struggling to talk to my son, and keep a respectable form while doing so. I’m sure I exuded the epitome of grace.

You were walking your brown dog. I don’t know the breed, but he has a gentle spirit. You were melancholy in your stroll, sporting maroon leggings and a grey shirt. Your skin appeared to be milky white under the overcast early evening April sky. Your short, black, coarse hair bounced with vibrance as it usually does. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen you. This was the 5th time. I don’t know why, but I know it’s you when I see you, every single time.

I was trying not to be obvious as you walked in my direction and passed 6 feet away from me. I didn’t see your face and didn’t even look back. I was content being that close to you.

As I circled the path, I noticed you walked across the street into the parking lot disappearing into the next block.

Today was a great day, and catching a glimpse of you, even for a moment was enough to keep me going through the night.

I’ve been living here for 9 months getting to know myself again, focusing on work.

One thing I know for sure is, we don’t have to have the person or thing we want this very moment, but rather, we simply have to connect with the feeling of what it will be like and marinate in the joy of it every single moment it crosses our mind.

Today was a great day, and I found contentment in the feeling alone. I’m excited for what the future will bring because I know you’ll be there with me.
